Bal Gangadhar Tilak, endeared as Lokmanya, was an Indian nationalist, teacher, and independence activist. He was one-third of the Lal Bal Pal triumvirate. Tilak was the first leader of the Indian independence movement. The British colonial authorities called him “The father of the Indian unrest. On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of  Bal Gangadhar Tilak India issued 100 and 5 rupees commemorative coins. The 100 rupees coin is minted in silver (.500)
